Houston Temple Project, USA~ Govindaji Gaudiya Matha

Building of the Govindaji Gaudiya Math, the first ground-up Gaudiya Math constructed in America under the guidance of Srila Gurudeva

With the intention of establishing a center in the West where the manobhistam of our Gurudeva in regard to the mission of Mahaprabhu and Rupa Goswami will be established, preserved, and passed on to future generations, the devotees in Houston, under the request of Srila Gurudeva are constructing a beautiful temple and Vedic Cultural and Educational center.  The project will include the installation of the deities Radha-Govinda, Gaura Nityananda, and Sita Rama, Laksman, and Hanuman.  A first class Gurukula with a holistic approach to training and education, a base for a brahmacari training center with traveling sankirtana and nama hatta programs, as well as a center for Vedic theater, music, and fine arts are all in the works.

Srila Gurudeva has expressed a strong desire that this will be a major center in the west for establishing his mission in a solid way and we are all eager to fulfill his desire.  There is a deep mood of affection and cooperation developing here and anyone who wishes to be a part of this wonderful project is invited to participate.

Govindaji Gaudiya Matha~ Rama Navami Mela March 27th

Since Srila Gurudeva has been traveling and preaching around the world he has visited Houston every year.  He has often said how the local devotees are so dear to him and so it was his request to have a group of brahmacaris come and help them to make a first class Matha in Houston where daily worship is going on, alive with happy and enthusiastic devotees.  The clearing of the land of the construction site of the future Govindaji Gaudiya Math which will be the first Matha in the West constructed from the foundation upward, began around the time of Gaur Purnima this year.

On March 27th the devotees of Houston will sponsor a grand event to usher in this historic temple building project and also to raise funds for the construction of the house of Sri Radha Govinda, Gaura Nitai, and Sita Rama.  The Rama Navami Mela on March 27th from 9am to 6pm has engaged all the devotees of Houston in a great drive to spread the word of Srila Gurudeva and his future temple through radio, news, personal meetings, distribution of flyers, and announcements all with the aim to bring what is expected to be two to four thousand people to the site of the future Matha.

There people will have a fun filled day of spiritual activity including a maha yagna, recitation of Sunderkanda, taking the Lord’s deity on a horse drawn carriage, abhiseka and more, as well as ongoing kirtana throughout the day with Jahnava didi.  In addition to many games and fun activities for children, a popular local DJ will be present and there will also be a full scale display of the transcendental artwork of Syamarani didi which has been sponsored by the Meditation Hour radio show, a weekly program promoting pure Gaudiya Vaishnavism in Houston.

It is our hope that those who wish to help with establishing Srila Gurudeva’s dear temple project in Houston will read through the newsletter, Heartly Blessings, to learn about the  brick sponsorship program, a fundraising activity inspired by the pastime of building the bridge from Ramesvaram to Lankapuri.  Praying that Srila Gurudeva’s worldwide family of devotees accept our humble attempt to serve his mission, and will feel that this temple is their home, all are invited to join in the Mela.  Just as the squirrels and great monkeys like Hanuman built the bridge together, each devotee’s heartfelt Guruseva, great or small, is accepted and appreciated by the Lord equally. Thus all can feel that they can be a part of creating a bridge of pure bhakti into the future for generations to come and for the preservation and propagation of the mission or our Srila Gurudeva.
