On Caring

How To Be Free From Anger And Resentment

A lecture given in France: July, 1999

[O respected reader, this lecture is so important that Srila Narayana Gosvami Maharaja introduced it by saying that without placing its contents in our hearts, we cannot become free from anger and resentment. Then, noticing a lack of undivided attention in some members of his audience, he told them:

We are not Masters to Chastize

We must try to advance, and not waste our time in criticizing trying to control all situations. Gurudeva can control. He is a controller, and Krsna, Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu and Nityananda Prabhu are controllers. It is in our interest to think, "I am not the controller. I should be controlled by Them. I should try to control myself." In this way we can develop our Krsna consciousness.

Love and Affection

First of all I am offering my millions of dandavat pranati at the lotus feet of my spiritual guru, Nitya-lila Pravista Om Sri Srimad Bhakti Prajnana Kesava Gosvami. I offer the same unto the lotus feet of my siksa guru Om Visnu-pada Sri Srimad Bhaktivedanta Swami Maharaja.

Today I am especially remembering my siksa guru Sri Srimad Bhaktivedanta Swami Maharaja and his first journey to America by boat. He passed through the Mediterranean Sea just south of here, on to the Atlantic Ocean, and finally he arrived in Boston.

On the order of his Gurudeva, he carried the message of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu and Srila Rupa Gosvami to America. On his journey across the seas, he was so sick that he thought that he might die. He had no medicine or doctor and was completely dependent on Krsna. Despite his suffering, he was determined to go to America and preach.

Humility

(A Lecture on Bhajana Rahasya)
New Braja, Badger, CA: June 1, 2002 – Part 1

I offer my millions of humble obeisances unto the lotus feet of my paramaradhyadeva, Om Visnupada Sri Srimad Bhakti Prajnana Kesava Gosvami Maharaja, and the same unto the lotus feet of my siksa-guru, Om Visnupada Sri Srimad Bhaktivedanta Swami Maharaja.

In the morning I visited the school and saw the students and teachers, and I became very satisfied. I want this school to advance more and more. The students should learn Vaisnava etiquette, they should learn to honor all Vaisnavas, they should fully learn our siddhanta, and they should be very polite and humble. The teachers should be very humble. If they are not humble, polite, and honoring their superiors, they will not be able to teach these principles to their students. I know personally that Vrajendrananda Prabhu and Nitya Manjari dasi are very humble and polite. I like them very much, and I want the other teachers to be like them. Because some of the teachers are young, sometimes they may become upset, but they should always see that they must practice themselves in order to teach. The students will learn by the behavior of the teachers. I want this school to advance still further, so that devotees may send students from every part of the world.

Your Twenty-Four Gurus

Written by Srila Narayana Gosvami Maharaja

Instructions are of three kinds: 1) hearing the teachings of those who are actually sadhus; that is, guru and maha-bhagavata Vaisnavas. 2) learning from their character. It will benefit us to follow the manner in which they do bhajana, conduct their daily routine and behave towards others. 3) watching here and there, and thus learning by one’s own intelligence. Dattatreya was telling about what he concluded by seeing nature. By his intelligence he took something for his own bhajana, and we should also do that.

If Someone Urinates on You

I offer my millions of heart-touching obeisances unto the lotus feet of my param-aradyattama gurupada-padma (worshipful Gurudeva), nitya-lila-pravista om visnupada, Sri Srimad Bhakti Prajnana Kesava Gosvami Maharaja. And I offer the same, millions of humble obeisances to the lotus feet of my siksa-guru, Sri Srimad Bhaktivedanta Swami Maharaja.

We have completed our discussion of abhidheya-tattva (the process adopted to attain the object of life, love of God), and now we will discuss sadhana-bhakti. For what purpose is sadhana-bhakti practiced? I have explained our aim and object of life. Sri Krsna personally admitted that the love of Srimati Radharani and the gopis is the highest love.
